Glass and PPC Frame defects are inevitable on active Construction Sites.

Glass and PPC Frame defects are inevitable on active Construction Sites.

What matters is how quickly they can be resolved.

Even on well managed construction sites, glass and PPC frames can be damaged during the build phase. Sparks from angle grinders, accidental contact from scaffold strikes, surface scratches from cleaning, impact damages, and splashes from concrete or mortar, can all leave visible defects.

The issue is rarely whether defects will appear on a snagging list. The real concern is whether resolving them will delay practical completion, trigger variations or how it affects the budget.

Chicago Glass (UK) Ltd provides a practical alternative to either accepting the defect, or replacing the panel entirely. We carry out specialist onsite restoration of damaged glass and PPC frames on-site, helping you keep your project on track and your programme moving.

What defects we typically see on Construction Sites

This reflects 25 years of working on UK construction sites. Most defects fall into one of these categories.

Scratching during the build

Scratching during the build

Glass can become easily scratch during construction due to general site traffic, moving materials and tools, incorrect cleaning, or scaffold striking. We remove scratches with the glass in-situ wherever possible, restoring it to the BSI standard for newly installed glass

PPC Frames - Scuffs, Dents & Scratches

PPC Frames - Scuffs, Dents & Scratches

Powder-coated frames can pick up damage at any stage of the build, from general site traffic to the movement of materials and equipment. We carry out on-site remedial repairs and paint spraying, with colour matching available where the RAL code or sheen level is unknown. Damaged frames can often be repaired without being removed.

Impact Damage - Chips, Shells and Edge Damage:

Impact Damage - Chips, Shells and Edge Damage:

Moving glass on site, dropped tools, or contact with scaffolding can cause chips, shells and edge damage. Our technicians will restore the profile and structural integrity of the damaged glass panel.

Grinder and Weld Spatter

Grinder and Weld Spatter

Hot metal particles from grinding and welding can burn into the glass surface, leaving hot metal particles embedded into the glass. We can remove the metal particles and improve the appearance of the glass.

Concrete, Mortar and other Surface Contamination

Concrete, Mortar and other Surface Contamination

Building work above or near glazed areas, can leave stubborn residue on the glass. If it is left, or cleaned incorrectly, these contaminants can etch into the glass. We remove contamination and, if etching has occurred, we can restore the glass so it looks clean and clear again.

High-Level Glazing - Rope Access

High-Level Glazing - Rope Access

When scaffolding is not practical, or powered access would be disruptive, our IRATA certified technicians can carry out glass polishing and restoration safely at height using rope access methods.

Why Use Our Services?

We know that working on a live construction site calls for clear communication, flexibility, high quality repairs, and a team you can rely on. Damaged glass and PPC framework can affect budgets, deadlines, quality, and the final impression your client takes away. So, our approach is built around helping you resolve issues quickly, professionally, and with as little disruption as possible. Our repair service is often more cost-effective than the full replacement of damaged panels, and we take pride in delivering high quality workmanship on every project.

We provide a clear written scope of works and quotation. Before any work begins, Tom or Petita will discuss with you the snags you have onsite, clearly explaining how we work and quantifying the damage, before setting out the scope of works, along with costs, important notes to be aware of, and payment terms via a free no-obligation written quotation, so you know what to expect from the outset.

Sustainability. Every day, our technicians restore a scratched, contaminated, impact damaged glass panel on construction sites. Enabling that panel to stay in the building and out of the landfill. The same goes for architectural metal framework. Rather than being scrapped, it gets a second life. No transportation of waste panels, no unnecessary manufacturing of new glass or metalwork, extending product lifecycles and reducing construction waste.

We work within your programme, not ours. If certain panels need to be prioritised, whether that is pre-handover areas, client walk routes, or locations awaiting sign-off, we plan the work around your schedule. If needed, we can also work evenings and weekends to help keep your programme moving. We can carry out repairs at any stage of the build. We can work at any stage of the build, carry out repairs on site and usually with the glass in situ, and support a wide range of glass panels and metal framework. We also aim to respond quickly, often attending site within two working days, and always with a focus on quality workmanship, straightforward service, and cost-effective repair where replacement may not be necessary.

We operate across mainland UK. Our head office is in Rochester, Kent, and our technicians work nationwide. Whether your site is in London, Manchester, Birmingham, or elsewhere in the UK, we will confirm availability and lead times when you get in touch.

We can mobilise a team, not just one technician. We can support projects of all sizes. If you have damaged panels across multiple floors, plots, or blocks and a deadline to meet, we can scale our team to suit your requirements.

Our technicians hold GQA and CSCS cards as a minimum. They are fully prepared for live construction environments and understand the practical and safety requirements of working on active sites.

Confidentiality is part of how we work. We understand the importance of discretion and do not refer to specific site locations in any online media unless we have your written permission to do so.
