Scratched Glass

The most common reason for scratched glass is when cleaners have tried to remove paint or mortar from the surface using blunt blades or scrapers. The glass damage is deep and usually can best be rectified by using a two stage polishing process, hazing the glass to break down the edges of the scratches and then polishing to obtain a clear result.
Cleaners can also create scratched glass by collecting grit within their cleaning cloths or leathers and scratching the surface. This creates light scratches which can either be polished out of, if extensive, can be masked by application of a film over the damaged area.
The one area of scratched glass that cannot be resolved easily is damage created by sand paper close to the edge of frames where there is always a risk of damaging the window frames with the polishing machine.
Scratched glass caused in transit to site, glass rubbing against glass or caused by tool belts or ladders rubbing against glass can usually be polished out distortion free.
