Glass Restoration is the process in which our glass technicians

rebuild the damaged edges of glass panels

This reduces the visibility of the damage, improves structural integrity of the panel, making it safe again.

Our aim is to provide you with an alternative option to replacing damaged panels with new ones.

Our focus is on providing an excellent, efficient service, along with high quality workmanship to the repair of impact damaged glass, whether it is damaged on the edge of the glass panel or within the glass panels.

Our ‘magic man’ of glass restoration technicians will use the process suited to the damage, use the correct resin for the glass, and the technicians own experience with repairing impact damages.

How do We Repair Chips, Edge Damage and Shelled Glass?

How do We Repair Chips, Edge Damage and Shelled Glass?

The Process

All repairs are undertaken on-site whilst the glass is in-situ, using UV cured resins and tools especially designed for this job.

Where the damage is located on the edge of a glass panel, such as shells and slither damages, our resin repair system enables the technician to rebuild the damaged glass using tabs and resins, before shaping and polishing it back to match the profile of the glass.  For damages located within the panel, such as bullseyes and star chips, we use a vacuum tool (an injector) designed to remove air and moisture from the void before filling the break completely with the resins.

Both of these processes leave the damaged area with a smooth, clear and safe finish that is both structurally stable and with the original profile restored.

What Type of Damages can our Resin Repair?

Each impact damage is unique.  The images you see below, provides you with an idea of damages we can repair for you.

Edge Chips

Edge Chips

These can be multiple chips along the edge, or just a singular chip.

Edge Slithers

Edge Slithers

Unlike chip, an edge slither, removes a long thin shard of glass from the profiled edge. Often with a deeper area of impact in one point.

Multiple Shells to Edge

Multiple Shells to Edge

Like a shell impact, there are multiple small 'shells' along the edge of the glass.

Shells

Shells

The glass has chipped from the edge, and taken a 'shell' piece off the glass frontage.

Star/Spider Impact

Star/Spider Impact

Located within the main part of the panel, not on the edge. A star/spider impact sees small multiple cracks coming from the point of impact. Much like spider legs.

Bullseye Impact

Bullseye Impact

Located within the main part of the panel, a bullseye impact damage looks like an eye, with the pupil being the main point of impact.

Removing the PVB layer

Removing the PVB layer

On occassions the PVB layer does not sit as it should within the glass. Using a special tool we can remove unwanted PVB.

Cracks

Cracks

Often caused when the glass is under stress, or an impact has occured.

Regrettably, we are unable to repair the damage where the impact damage i.e., chips, shells or cracks are on:

a vehicle window (please visit our sister company www.glaswelduk.com who will be able to assist you), the crack goes edge to edge/corner to corner, on kitchen appliances, single-pane shopfront windows, on mirrored glass, or where the glass is broken or shattered.
